SYSTEM NEWS

We're pleased to announce a brand new design on our popular two point continuous monitoring systems. They're all digital, and feature a "smart meter" that sets up the user functions.

This is so new, that we're just beginning to produce data sheets. For now, you'll have to contact the guy in the know:

Our VP of Sales--Richard Shaw.

Call him at 1 800 458-6153, ext 139, or e-mail Rick@gasdetection.com

WE NEED YOUR HELP

You're probably familiar with our Technical Notes section on the website

We want this to be the most informative website in the industry!!

HALIMETER NEWS

Many of you are aware of the inherent difficulties in establishing an "instrument lab" quality calibration on the Halimeter.

For one thing, the unit must respond to hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan and dimethyl sulfide, all of which can be present in varying amounts in the patient.

For another, humidity seems to have an effect on the readings, since they are performed in the saturated environment of the mouth, while the instrument is calibrated at ambient humidity.

Short of having our dentist customers spend fortunes on sophisticated calibration equipment, we have come up with a better day to day approach:

We call it the "good breath person" (GBP) method. This will soon be on the website in greater detail, but in essence, this is it...

1. When you first receive the unit, establish a good breath person in your office.

2. Such an individual will have a reading between 80-120 ppb. A reading on such an individual that appears outside of this range should be suspect.

3. If the errant reading is reproducible three times, then either the good breath person has changed, or the instrument needs to be adjusted.

4. Once you have ruled out the possibility of the GBP having changed, by either organoleptic means, or by simply using another temporary GBP, the unit can be easily adjusted with the front panel SPAN or CALADJUST potentiometer.

As I said, this is the short version of the procedure. The "long version" will soon be up on the website tech notes, but in the meantime, you can e-mail our service manager, John Mora, at

service@gasdetection.com

TOO HOT FOR THE WEBSITE

The move to ethylene oxide "replacement," hydrogen peroxide gas plasma, is starting to wane--big time. The docs are getting involved, and so is the FDA.

Read what very proper medical microbiologist, Dr. E.A. Bryce, has to say in this SELF-FUNDED study.

http://www.slackinc.com/general/iche/ichetoc97.htm

You'll never want plasma-sterilized goods to be put into your body.

More info to come, as this is a developing story....
